Impact of Covid-19

If you are thinking of applying for teacher training at this time, or are joining us in September we have some frequently asked questions that may help.

Q:What if I cannot attend school experience prior to interview?

Prior experience in a school is not required prior to interview.

Q:Does the 40-day rule for making decisions about ITT applications still apply?

All rolling UCAS Teacher Training decision making deadlines are on hold for now. Applicants should wait to be contacted by the providers for specific guidance.

Q:Do I have to have a face-to-face interview?

There is no requirement for a face-to-face interview. These can take place electronically, we are using Zoom.

Q: I’m expecting to get a bursary/scholarship/student finance for my course starting in September. Will this still be available?

Yes. This will still be in place for all new programmes.

Q: What if I have been unable to complete my Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course?

SKE training courses can be completed before or alongside ITT. If you have been unable to complete a SKE course, the SKE provider will make an assessment and communicate this to your ITT provider. If necessary, you can defer your SKE course and complete this alongside your ITT course at a later date.

Q: How will I complete my DBS?

We are completing these remotely – you can show your documents on a zoom call and scan them to us.

Q: I was resitting GCSE English/maths/science this summer but was unable to due to covid-19, what will happen?

Your GCSE course provider will have entered a centre-assessed grade and we now have until November for you to achieve these – please contact us if you need an equivalency test

Q: I am starting the course in September and I am worried about my training – what will it be like?

Our course enrolment takes place on 31/8/20. Unlike previous years we will not be starting you in school from day 1 due to the situation. At the moment our initisl professional training is likely to take place online as will the PGCE element.  However, you will still be placed in a school from October, will still continue to have all elements of the training and will still be given all the support and development you need to become an outstanding classroom practitioner.  As the situation changes we are adjusting our offer to ensure both your safety and your development.
